Polyester Acoustic Panels: Grille Patterns and Custom Cutting

Polyester acoustic panel grilles use cut patterns to create visual depth and repetition. An enquiry should describe the pattern, support and finish as a complete design rather than treating every cut board as interchangeable.

Define the grille geometry

Prepare a drawing showing the repeat, module size, cut openings and boundary pieces. Confirm which dimensions are controlled by the product and which can be customised. Ask the supplier to review narrow parts, handling and edge quality before approving a complex pattern.

Coordinate backing and support

Record whether the grille has an additional backing or is part of a layered construction. Confirm how pieces connect and how the system is supported. A design intended for a wall cannot automatically be suspended overhead; review the specific installation instructions and approved fixing arrangement.

Review a representative sample

Inspect cut edges, colour, texture and joints under the intended lighting. A small flat swatch may not reveal how a complete grille pattern will look. Agree the accepted sample and the drawing version used for production, including how later replacement pieces will be identified.

Compare evidence for the finished design

Custom-cut grille drawing handover

1. Identify the drawing revision, units, finished module dimensions and orientation.
2. Dimension the pattern repeat, openings and narrowest parts; ask the supplier to confirm manufacturing limits rather than assuming a minimum feature size.
3. Mark visible edges, perimeter pieces, service cut-outs and joining or fixing positions.
4. State the material, thickness, color reference, backing and intended wall or overhead use.
5. Approve a representative cut sample showing a narrow detail, edge and joint; keep the accepted sample reference with the production drawing.
6. Confirm piece labels, quantities, packing order and replacement-piece identification in the quotation.

A rendering does not establish that a pattern can be manufactured or supported as drawn. Review changes before production, and confirm whether acoustic and other product documents cover the finished design.
