Printed acoustic felt needs an artwork approval process as well as a tile layout. Colours shown on a screen may differ from the finished substrate, especially across a pattern made from several hexagons.

Prepare the artwork at the correct scale

Agree the file format, final dimensions and colour workflow with the supplier. Mark the visible area, trim boundaries and any required bleed using the approved tile template. Keep critical text and logos clear of cut edges and joints. Confirm responsibility for checking image quality before production.

Map the image across the tiles

Number each piece and show its orientation on an elevation. Review how the image crosses gaps, sockets and partial boundary tiles. Decide whether a damaged piece can be reprinted independently or whether matching requires retained artwork and a production reference.

Approve a physical proof

Review a printed sample on the actual felt and finish under the intended room lighting. Confirm the acceptable variation and record the approved reference. Printing, coatings or backing changes should be checked against the relevant product documents rather than assuming an unprinted board report covers every finish.

Keep the approval record usable

Plan Printable Acoustic Felt from Artwork to Approved Sample

Hexagon printable acoustic felt can be considered for a graphic wall concept, but the artwork, substrate and production method must be reviewed together. Confirm that the selected felt and proposed design are suitable for the available printing process before treating a visual mock-up as an order specification.

This guide sets out the questions to resolve for a printed project. Availability, minimum quantities, achievable detail and production timing should be confirmed in your quotation.

Start with the Finished Wall Layout

Decide whether each hexagon carries an independent graphic or forms part of one continuous image. A continuous image needs a numbered tile map, clear orientation and an agreed approach to joints. Fine lines, faces and small lettering can be disrupted where the image crosses a gap or cut edge.

Prepare Artwork for the Actual Output Size

Ask the production team to confirm file format, colour workflow, bleed, safe area and image resolution for the final dimensions. Do not rely on the size of a small screen preview. Supply logos and text in the format requested, and identify any critical brand colours that require a physical reference.

State the final printed dimensions and intended viewing distance.
Provide one approved artwork version with a clear revision name.
Show tile numbers and orientation on a separate installation map.
Keep critical text and logos away from joints unless the proof demonstrates an acceptable result.
Confirm that you have permission to reproduce the supplied artwork.

Approve a Physical Print Proof

The felt colour and surface texture can affect the finished appearance. Review a printed sample on the proposed material, using representative colours, gradients and fine detail from the actual artwork. Check it under the lighting planned for the room.

For a multi-tile image, approve a joint between adjacent printed samples as well as a single tile. Record the material code, print process, artwork revision and approval date. A digital proof can confirm composition, but it cannot fully demonstrate texture or the physical colour result.

The colour chart is a material reference, not a guaranteed printed colour palette. Confirm substrate colour and printed output separately.

Check Performance After Finishing

Do not assume an unprinted felt report automatically covers every printed or coated version. Ask whether the acoustic, fire and emissions documents apply to the finished product and its mounting arrangement. The amount and type of surface treatment may be relevant to that assessment.

Plan Installation and Replacement

Use the approved tile map to keep the image in sequence. Check the substrate and the fixing instructions for the actual supplied product. The reference illustration below does not establish that every wall or printed finish is suitable for the same adhesive.

Agree spare tiles and keep the approved artwork available for future enquiries. A later replacement may differ from the original batch, so confirm matching expectations before ordering. Ask for cleaning guidance appropriate to the printed surface; do not assume the unprinted material’s cleaning method remains suitable.

Send the wall elevation, tile dimensions, artwork, quantity, delivery destination and required documentation. Identify whether the design is a repeat pattern or a continuous image, and request confirmation of sample charges, approval stages and production lead time.

Can any photograph be printed at wall size?

Not necessarily. Source quality, final dimensions, viewing distance and the printing process all matter. Have the file assessed at its intended output size before approving production.
